What it is

What studies suggest
The NIH notes that extracts might help reduce stress and anxiety, and that a few small studies suggest improved sleep.
How long is it used
It appears safe for up to about three months. It is not clear whether longer use is safe.
Cautions
It may affect the thyroid and can interact with thyroid medication. Ashwagandha has also been linked to liver problems in some people. It should not be used in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
